Hummingbird Don’t Fly Away

One of the great things about lake life is taking time to appreciate all the different birds and animals.  As I walked out onto my deck, I narrowly missed stepping on the little guy to the right.  All of a sudden I watched the momma hummingbird swoop in, see if her baby (big baby) was going to be okay, and then return to a nearby tree branch.  After a few moments of keeping a watchful eye on her little darling, she flew off to find some delectable morsel to share.  I quickly retreated and found my trusty camera in hopes of catching the two together…and voila!  Lake LBJ and the surrounding Highland Lakes offers a menagerie of beautiful birds.  If you see one that you would like to know more about, check out All About Birds!

  1. Loved your post about hummingbirds. I could sit and watch them for hours. On the East coast I was so happy to see them returning in the spring and sad when they left in the fall. Do they stay around the lake all year round?

    • No, I wish they did stay all year round! But they are pretty punctual. They usually get here around the early part of March and stay until close to the second week of October. If the hummingbird feeders aren’t out, they buzz around and make sure you know they are back :) I bet you have some beautiful birds on the east coast!
